"I'll see you later at Lady Hatting's ball." Aurora said as she walked up to Lady Auburn's door. Flash made a face and frowned. "Come on now. She isn't that bad, sweet."
Flash gave her a kiss on the cheek and hopped in the carriage. "Unfortunately I love you too much to say i rather stick needles in my eyes.." He mumbled.
"I heard that!" Aurora fumed and knocked on the door. Hopkins opened the door as Aurora rushed in and towards the drawing room. Hopkins follwed her and tried to stop her. "Hold you horses, Hopkin. She knows I'm coming.I hope she has prepared that sugar cookies i so ador-" The words were cut off when she opened the door. Beth broke free from Lord Warrick's arms and tried to move away. But he dropped his arm around her and pulled her close. "Oh my. It seems i'm interupting... Dreadfully sorry. My lord." She curtsied at Lord Warrick and smiled a asecret smile at Beth's flushed face. "I'll come back later when... when you are not occupied." Before she could leave, Lord Warrick called her back.
"Ahh.. Lady Claybourne, would you like to be the first to congratulate us?" He drawled. If looks could kill, Lord Warrick would be dead and decomposing from the glares of Beth.
"And, what would I be congratulating you about, my lord?"
"Aiden if you please. We are going to be close friends. Afterall, Beth and I are engaged." He smiled. And that was all it took for Beth to snap.
"We are not engaged, Aurora. Don't believe him. He's just jesting." Beth stepped forward only to be pulled back again. At that moment, Tyera appeared behind Aurora.
"Did i miss something?" She asked, eyebrows arching at Lord Warrick's arm around Beth's waist.
"No!" Beht exclaimed, casting a helpless look at Aurora. Aurora grinned and Beth groaned.
"Let's just say their mouths were really, really close to each other when i arrived. They're engaged by the way."
Aurora smirked. Tyera giggled.
"Well, Beth.. Congratulations from Lady Claybourne and me." She smiled.
"Thank you, Lady Dazzle. Now, my own, i shall go collect our rings." He leaned down to kiss her, nodded to Aurora and Tyera and went out the door. The moment the door shut, Beth's eyes rolled back and she slipped to the floor.
"I fainted too when Flash proposed. " Aurora told Tyera as they half-lifted, half-carried Beth to the couch. Tyera helped herself to a sugar cookies while Aurora settled Beth's skirt around her.
"I hoped i don't. I don't fancy falling on hard floor."
"Then make sure he propose on carpets." Aurora bit into a cookie and closed her eyes in pleasure. "Her cook makes the best sugar cookies ever."
"I agree. How was your trip to the boxing club?" Tyera asked.
"It was something to be remembered... But let's wait till Beth recovered. I do not wish to repeat my story or i'll be late for Lady Hatting's ball.I made Flash go." She said cheerfully. Tyera laughed.
"I would have thought he would rather have his hands cut off then go to the ball. Not after she accused him of touching her indecently."
"I know! You've to admit it was hilarious. I don't think i have ever seen Flash's face that pale before. During that night, he had never even left my side except to fetch me a drink! But Lady Hatting just wouldn't give! She kept on it till someone told her one of her poodles nosed her behind! Did you saw her face when that happen!!" Aurora and Tyera burst into laughter.
"I'm glad to see you are enjoying yourself at my expense." Beth said dryly as she straightened her skirts. "What happened?"
"You're engaged to Lord Warrick." Tyera grinned.
"That wasn't just a dream?" Beth groaned. "Start your story, Aurora. Maybe i'll feel better but i doubt it." Aurora rang for more cookies and tea beofre she launched her story. By the end of the story, Beth and Tyera longed to see the club all by themselves.
"You have to go without me, i'm afraid. I had promised Flash i would not go again." Aurora stated as she headed out the door.
"We'll have more fun without you anyway." Tyera comment and received a gasp from Aurora. "I'm jesting!" She said as she hurried down her carriage. "maybe not!"
"Why, you!" Aurora muttered. She turned and kissed Beth on her cheek. "Take care, dear." She raced down to her carriage and refused to look at Tyera. Tyera rolled her eys and blew a kiss to Beth. Beth waved and smiled.
Now, to prepare for Lady Hatting's ball.
